Brendan’s been with us for a decade now, since 2015, focusing on training as well as ensuring constant precision in tissue handling. Every day, he’s helping to ensure that our clients always receive the very best in custom swine tissues.
A Bioscience Career Story: Operations Manager Brendan Lederach
As Brendan tells it, his love of animals is truly lifelong – ever since he was three years old and rescued a stray kitten near his town’s community pool.
Growing up in the country, he was able to keep that connection with animals going. In school, he was part of the 4H Club, raising chickens and rabbits for projects while gaining an appreciation for the ethical treatment of farmed animals.
In addition, he was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed numerous trips into the countryside while picking up merit badges. Along the way, he became interested in hunting – not merely for sport but cultivating an understanding of the circle of life. Even from a young age, he was focused on ensuring that every animal killed was put to the best use possible, so that their sacrifice could help others.
However, his true turning point was when he began raising seeing-eye dogs alongside his parents. That was when he realized that caring for animals could truly change people’s lives for the better. This realization would push him forward in the years to come.
From there, he went to college at Delaware Valley University. Originally, he was thinking of becoming a vet, but discovered he had more interest in the business side of agriculture. So, he majored in Agribusiness before discovering ABI during his senior year of college.
Brendan graduated in 2014 and was already working here the next spring. Our passion for ethical tissue sourcing for the sake of better bioresearch spoke to him, meshing perfectly with his own love of human/animal partnerships, and he found his professional home.
Demonstrating Leadership in Biomedical Supply
Brendan moved quickly up the ranks, getting work in nearly every aspect of our business as he learned more. Ultimately, he became our Operations Manager, overseeing day-to-day work while working directly with clients. He is instrumental in every aspect of our operations, making us better through his tireless commitment to ethics and respect.
In everyday operations, he oversees the staff involved in harvesting custom-ordered swine tissues, ensuring that every order meets our exacting quality standards. Every order must be exactly what the customer needs, harvested with precision, and stored to maximize its value to researchers. Every tissue we ship meets strict specifications, and Brendan ensures that’s the case.
You’ll also often find him on the phone, working directly with clients to understand their orders and their needs. If you ever have an issue, Brendan is the guy to talk to, and he’ll make sure you’re fully satisfied.
Mentorship and Giving Back
On top of that, he’s also one of our primary trainers – bringing out a passion for the work for our new hires and helping them quickly gain the skills necessary to become valued members of our staff.
That’s not all. Brendan also donates his time working with local youth programs, helping to foster a love of nature among youth growing up in a tech-focused world. Nature and technology can coexist to mutual benefit, and he’s helping the next generations understand that.
Away from work, Brendan still hunts and farms. At home, he has cows, chickens, and honeybees – maintaining that personal connection to nature that began when he was only a toddler.
